Kindness Pledge

I pledge myself on this day to try to be kind in everyway;
To everybody big or small- I will help you when you call;
To love myself and others, too- that's the best that I can do!

Form of Discipline:
As often as possible, I try to prevent behavioral problems by giving children age appropriate choices and by anticipating their needs (ex. frequent meals and snacks, water breaks, adequate time for active play and rest). Other techniques I use include redirection, communication to help children anticipate transitions, helping children to learn which words to use to resolve conflicts verbally and removal of items causing conflict ("toy time outs").
In rare cases, a time out may be necessary. If this is implemented, children are removed from play but within line of sight until they are able to calm down and return to play and/or for a time period equivalent to 1 minute per year of age.

The Rules:

1. Show Respect for others, ourselves and our environment

I recommend the Love and Logic series by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline. It helps to enable children to make appropriate choices and learn from their own mistakes. Please see www.loveandlogic.com for more information about this program.
